The Laws Expanded.

1. Nutrition.

Is our current food supplying all the nutrients we need? Government reports show that nutrient levels, especially trace minerals, have declined very significantly over the last 80 years. Some nutrients are now at less than 1% of what they used to be.

Some causes of loss are, depleted soils, breeding for increased production, greater levels of CO2 in the air, (yes, studies have shown that higher CO2 decreases nutrient count), length of time from paddock to plate, and on top of that we have the losses in storage and preparation. Did you know freezing decreases some nutrients by more than 30%? No wonder many health commentators now recommend supplementing with good quality, broad spectrum products. The 2009 Comparative Guide to Nutritional Supplements is the most up to date and comprehensive guide available at the moment. 3. Water.

When did you last have a drink of pure soft water? There are so many options, it gets confusing. An old rule of thumb is to just do the best you can in the situation you find yourself in. Don't skimp on it, I have never heard of an overdose, have you?

4. Sunlight.

One scientist said sunscreen was a form of pollution. I would be careful with that. But your skin does need some sunlight. A lot of skin problems occur because the body has been pre-disposed to damage through bad diet. Short spells early and late in the day seem to be the favoured option. It is still free too.

5. Temperance.

Is not "all things in moderation" as some mistakenly suppose. Rather it is the moderate use of the good, and the refusal to use the harmful. No longer fully possible in the world we live in. We can't refuse to breathe, we can only try to be where the air is better. There are many things we can say no to and be better off.

6. Air.

Do you exercise enough to get your lungs filled properly with air? That is one of the values of exercise. You may have to practice a bit of deep breathing, preferably in the bush. Not only are we facing food that is nutrient depleted, we are also facing air that is oxygen depleted, compared to what it used to be in ages past.

7. Rest.

Sleep is not a waste of time. It lets your body operate in rejuvenation mode. But we need more than just a good night's sleep. We need a whole day every week, when we can switch off without thinking we should be doing something. In Israel there used to be a banner up, picturing a tiger hanging off a branch, with the caption "Hang on, Sabbath is coming!" We have moved away to a large degree from the gift of that day that was made for man. Why does the fourth commandment say, "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy."? Isn't it because we are prone to forget? "For in six days the Lord made the heaven and the earth...and rested the seventh day, therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy." You see, by remembering the seventh day, we are reminded of who made us, so we know who and why to worship.

8. Trust in Divine Power.

But why should we trust in God?
"He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things." Rom.8:32. If God did not spare His own Son, is there anything that He would not do for us? How can we doubt His love?
When we realise there is Someone much bigger than us in control, that all the bad things will come to an end, that a new world is coming where there will be no more pain or suffering or death, it saves us a lot of worry. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding." He is much bigger and wiser and stronger than we are.
